Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose Dolphins

Acute palatal abscess.

Bottlenose Dolphins

View once the acute infection had subsided. No pulp exposure is visible on the teeth.

Bottlenose Dolphins

Extra-oral radiography of the area demonstrates a periapical absess, irregular and dilated apical foramen. The cause of the abscess was almost certainly through blunt trauma devitalising the pulp tissues. The extraction of infected dolphin teeth is always the treatment of choice. Endodontic therapy is neither advisable or practical.
